The 1st Observatory on the Italian Sport System, the sector is worth 96 billion euros
The report stems from the request of the EU Commission to the Member States to evaluate the economic dimension of the whole sector and offer fundamental data on the sector

With about 35 million fans, of which 15.5 million are regular practitioners, the Sport System is a sector of primary importance for the Italian economy and society. In 2019, before the Covid emergency, sport generated revenues of 95.9 billion euros, with an impact on the Italian GDP of 3.6%, employing approximately 389,000 people. This is what emerges from the first Observatory on the Sport System created by the Banca Ifis Research Department and illustrated today at the CONI headquarters in the presence of Giovanni Malagò, President of CONI, and Ernesto Fürstenberg Fassio, Vice President of Banca Ifis. The observatory was created to respond to the request of the EU Commission to Member States to measure the economic dimension of all components of sport and to offer public and private decision makers fundamental data and information for making strategic decisions.
